Is there anything more entertaining that seeing Japanese idols trying to speak English? Well yes there is but even so clips of idols speaking English are always fun. Whether it’s a longer length tv show like that old classic Hello! Morning English lesson episode (“hand in cheese”), a short show like the Ayaka English lessons (“Cakey cakey cakey”) or even just a short clip hanging around on Youtube like Chinami telling you she is hungry or Chinami saying that Miyabi is her boyfriend (we always suspected) idols speaking English are always a joy. Well now C-ute can be added to the rollcall of English-attempting idols thanks to this show here (link courtesy of someone on the 910 percent Facebook page).
In this show the C-ute members pick a card at random. The card they pick decides what level of conversation it will be. So we get simple things like pumping up the crowd at a concert to more involved stuff such as talking to a boy you like and trying to get his phone number. Here’s some screencaps as an illustration to show that it’s worth a watch…
All the members look great. Shining as always!
So first up is Airi…
Airi has to act out speaking to a fan. I won’t cap most of it because it’s better to watch but it’s cute, funny and Airi looks beautiful. The dress! The socks! The Airi-shaped being wearing them! HNNNGGGGGGGGG!
Airi shines so much. I was glad to her. I’m always glad to Airi. Err…huh?
After Airi comes Maimi…
Maimi has to act out a conversation where she fancies someone and wants to see them again. Shouldn’t be too difficult. Who’d say no?
“Stay stay stay!” Also sit! Beg! Rollover! And if I’m lucky she’ll rub my tummy too.
He has to go but I don’t. Take me! Take me! You can put a lead on me if you want.
Maimi tells the boy she loves him. Something that immediately brings to my mind that clip from Blackadder III. “luckyluckyluckyluckyluckyluckylucky…”
The rest of C-ute are enjoying this as much as I am.
I’m not sure who the guy is but speaking individually to each member and having Maimi say “I love you” and asking for his phone number pretty much makes him luckier than someone who has won the Lotto jackpot three weeks on the run.
Up next is Chisato…
Chisato has to act out being hit on in the street…
“Time limit” is quite funny but “crazy girl” is genius. If you don’t want someone hassling you just say that. Although maybe some guys would just be like “great! I love crazy girls”. That’s when the better option is to reach for the CS spray.
I have to say Chisato was on fine form on this show. Happy, full of energy and confidence. And she didn’t mention dieting once. Result!
Well I was only giving you a compliment. What are you? Crazy or something? Hey wanna go for a coffee?
Next is Maimai.
Mai has to have a conversation where she is going back to Japan but the guy wants to know why when they love each other…
I think that last pic sums up Mai’s grasp of English. Searching for words.
I think that last pic sums up Nacky’s grasp of English. The others are laughing while she’s sitting there looking like “shit it’s my turn next”.
And indeed after Maimai says “no” about a thousand times it is Nacky’s turn. She has to pump up the audience…
Nacky’s level of English is about the same as Mai’s which means lots of pauses and lots of help being given. Still it’s Nacky so I’m damn happy anyway.
Oh good. We’re both happy. In fact everyone’s happy. Well it’s C-ute. C-ute always means happiness.
So if you want to be happy too go watch now! It’s full of laughs, the members are all shining and you get to hear them speak English. It’s a great way to spend twenty minutes!
